Food Safety Is Your World!

As of April 15, 2011, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) based in Atlanta, Georgia, estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans (or 48 million people) gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases.(1)

It is estimated that 42% of foodborne illnesses are acquired in restaurants.(2) Ensure that your restaurant is not one of those that is responsible for a foodborne illness by learning the proper food safety techniques. These food safety techniques must then be taught to your staff, reenforced, and monitored daily.

There are many qualified food safety training programs available. Iowa State University has created a self-guided training program in food safety for foodservice managers and supervisors. Their program is available free online.
